Frequently asked questions

What temperature is the pool?

Our pool temperature is set at a beautiful 31-33 degrees which is the ideal temperature for teaching children. We have found that when the pool temperature drops below 30 degrees, it inteferes with the learning and progression of the children. Our promise is to always maintain a pool temperature that makes your child feel the most comfortable and at ease, providing the best environment to learn how to swim!

Are your instructors qualified?

All of our instructors hold current nationally recognised teaching qualifications from AUSTSWIM and/or ASCTA. Our instructors also hold current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certifications and have government Working With Children clearances.

Why are swimming lessons so important for my child?

Shockingly, drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children 0–4 years of age. According to Royal Life Saving Australia, 81% of drownings in 0-4 year olds occur due to falls in water. This is an alarming statistic which can easily be reduced if more young children had the skills and abilities to survive in water. Our purpose is to ensure children feel safe and confident in the water and to ultimately reduce the risk of water related injuries and drownings. Swimming is an invaluable life lesson and skill that we believe all Australians, especially our children, need to acquire.

At what age should I start swimming?

We start teaching our children how to swim from a young 6 months of age. Children who start swimming at an early age have the benefit of developing and practicing water safety skills that will prepare them in the case of an emergency.

What happens if my child misses a lesson?

We are aware that things happen and your child may be sick and unable to attend their scheduled lesson.  We are more than happy to provide a swim lesson credit when a child is ill or unwell once a medical certificate has been received. We also understand that kids these days are very busy with an abundance of different extra curricular activities. For this reason, we will always try and accommodate ONE missed lesson per child per term, however we cannot guarantee this as it will ultimately depend on class availability. In saying this, we have found that make-up lessons disrupt previously existing classes and so we encourage kids to maintain a consistent time each week as this leads to improved development for your little swimmers. Please note: We do not issue refunds, however, credits will be given as described above.

How do I book my child in for a lesson?

Booking your child into a lesson is super easy! Please follow these steps in orer:

  1. E-mail our team to express your interest and enrol for a FREE assessment here

  2. Come in and visit us at our pool location here so that we can do a quick assessment of your little swimmer!

  3. Let us help you book into an available time-slot for the most suitable lesson with our friendly team and enjoy the ride!

What are your class sizes?

We pride ourselves on our class sizes, in that they are smaller and more specialised than other swim schools. We believe and have found with our experience that children's development is hindered with large class sizes. Our class size for our Beginner class (Level 1) starts at 3-per class and grows as the child moves into higher levels. The small class sizes will ensure your child gets the most out of the learn-to-swim program, without compromising on quality.

How much do swimming lessons with you cost?

We offer the following range of 30 minute learn-to-swim lessons;

  • Group learn-to-swim lessons ($19 per lesson)

  • Baby learn-to-swim lessons ($19 per lesson)

  • Private learn-to-swim lessons (1:1 $50 per lesson, ONE child)

  • Semi-Private learn-to-swim lessons (Ratio 1:2 $60 | 1:3 $70)
*Note Ratio is Teacher : Students in class

  • We provide discounts for families with larger families. We provide a 50% discount on any family with 3 or more children booked into any given class.

Should my child keep up their swimming during the winter months?

From experience, we have seen that the children who stop learn-to-swim lessons over the winter period lose some of the vital skills and confidence that they had gained during the previous terms. As our pool is indoor and heated to a cosy 31-33 degrees, we encourage and recommend consistent swimming all year round!

Do you operate all year round?

Yes! Our learn-to-swim program runs all year round! We really believe it is so important to have your child swimming continuously all year round, for both their safety and skill progression. The only times our swim school does not operate are over the Christmas/New year period and public holidays.

What should my child wear to swimming lessons?

We recommend all children wear a waterproof swimming costume. We also recommend the use of goggles to protect the children's eyes from the chlorine. For all those water babies who are undergoing toilet training, a waterproof nappy is compulsory please!

How do I get to the pool and where do I park?

The pool is located on the grounds of Clark Road School (48-58 Clark Rd, Hornsby, NSW, 2077). To get to the pool you need to walk through the parking area and up the ramps. There is ample parking on the school grounds as well as the surrounding streets. The gate will be open for you to drive/walk in. Parents will only be able to park in the designated parking spots on the school premises after 4:00pm. We therefore ask that all parents park on the surrounding streets if their kids have a swimming lesson before 4:00pm.
